Set in the heart of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, the lodge is ideally situated for exploring the National Park’s many walks. The Mount Cook village itself is a lovely spot to enjoy the views with a barista-made coffee, or visit the Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre museum and planetarium. An internationally recognised Dark Sky Reserve, the night sky here is truly outstanding with myriads of stars visible to the naked eye. You’ll sleep well tonight in a comfortable ensuite room.

Lochmara Lodge (Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Sounds)

This unique place is a lodge, wildlife recovery and arts centre so there is plenty to explore. You will arrive under your own steam by kayaking across the sound to the lodge beach, where you’ll be welcomed by the hosts and shown to your homely room. Explore the sculpture trail, visit the rescued wildlife and discover more about their conservation programmes before enjoying an excellent meal with an amazing view from the restaurant overlooking the Sound.
